Five Young, Underrated Actors

James Franco – Arguably my favorite on this list, Franco has an undeniable passion for the theatrics. In each of his roles he carries himself with a sensibility so unlike many other actor and unlike a great handful of actors, he is versatile.

Films to Watch: 127 Hours, Howl, Milk, Good Time Max

Ryan Gosling – Gosling is a quiet actor who makes his living under the radar of popular Hollywood. He is another young, talented actor; one of which whom has been delivered praise for his performances, but has never quite made headlines.

Films to Watch: Lars and the Real Girl, Half Nelson, The Notebook, The United States of Leland, Murder by Numbers, Remember the Titans

Joseph Gordon-Levitt – Quite possibly the only actor on this list more versatile than Franco, Gordon-Levitt is a brilliant young actor whom of which I see becoming Hollywood’s next golden boy.

Films to Watch: Inception, Hesher, (500) Days of Summer, The Lookout, Brick, Manic, Mysterious Skin

Paul Dano –  Another quiet actor, Dano has only been in a few select films but displays a natural, versed ability.

Films to Watch: Gigantic, There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine

Jake Gyllenhaal – Brother to Maggie, Gyllenhall over and again proves he is more than just a pretty face. While under his filmography he does have some performances riviling the mundane, he is still quite good and is possibly the most over-looked actor on this list, despite being the most famed.

Films to Watch: Zodiac, Jarhead, Brokeback Moutain, The Day After Tomorrow, Donnie Darko, October Sky

Wow, great list! I completely agree! I loved Franco in 127 Hours and I’m looking forward to seeing Ryan Gosling in Blue Valentine. I would have to say that he’s one of my favorite Canadian actors (Yay for Canada! Haha).
